CONCUSSION PROTOCOL

Posted May 15, 2019

Good Evening Coaches,

We probably think of concussions as being a concern of contact sport coaches, unfortunately as baseball coaches we are not immune to concussions in our sport.

Having just had a player experience a concussion, I am attaching Baseball Manitoba's Concussion Protocol, the Concussion Recognition Tool 5 (CRT5), the Medical Assessment Letter and the Medical Clearance Letter (posted under Handouts). Hopefully this will help you recognize concussions and be able to appropriately take care of the player and advise their parents.  I suggest you print out a copy of the CRT5 and both letters to accompany you at games.  The letters need to be given to the parents of player who had contact to their head, Baseball Manitoba's protocol requires the player to provide medical clearance to return to any baseball related activities.

If you have any questions, please contact me.

Regards,
Derek Dreger
