Mohawks Win Two of Three Over the Weekend
Posted June 19, 2017
With three games over the past weekend, the Morden Mohawks had a good chance to make up some ground in the Border West Baseball League standings. Friday night saw the Tribe travel to Pilot Mound for a date with the Pilots. Blake Hartry threw a complete game gem for the Mohawks, and received some good run support as the Mohawks downed the Pilots 9-1. Tyson McConnell started on the mound for the Pilots and took the loss.
On Sunday, the Mohawks hit the road again, for a double header in Killarney. Derek Holenski started for the Mohawks on the hill in game one and notched his first win of the season, as the Mohawks bats picked up where they left off on Friday, beating the Lakers 11-3. Game two was a different story, as the Tribe struggled to cash in runnners in the early innings. The Lakers broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning scoring two runs to take a 3-1 lead. The Mohawks managed to bring in one run in the seventh but left the bases loaded, losing the game 3-2. Pearce McDonald took the tough-luck loss for the Tribe, despite throwing well.
The Mohawks next game is Friday night in Winkler against the Whips at 7pm.
