Orioles Prepare for Another Tough Contest
Posted December 14, 2017
Coming off last week’s game versus a 5th place finisher in state last year, Lennox will have its hands full facing last seasons state runner up.
Coach Paul McVey talked about Sioux Falls Christian and how talented this team is. Coach McVey says, “(Sioux Falls Christian) will be tough to beat for anyone they play in the area at any level. We had a hard time picking out a weakness to exploit on offense or defense.” McVey says how adversity can either pull a team apart or bring them together, in this case, Lennox battled better in the second half of that game.
Coach McVey says that the Orioles need to improve their transition defense and get the ball stopped while also protecting the hoop. “We also need to make them take more difficult shots and clean up the rebounds,” said McVey. Taking care of the ball and creating more great shots are another important task for McVey’s Orioles.
Madison brings a tough team to town making the Orioles’ season extremely tough to begin. Madison will bring some very talented players including four of their seniors, Jaxon and Jadon Janke, Josh Giles and Aaron Fiegen. Giles is a good leader as a guard with the Janke twins playing the guard/forward positions. Then in the post, they have 6 feet 7 inches tall Aaron Fiegen, he is one of the top post players in Class A.
Coach McVey talks about how Madison again, has another outstanding team. McVey says, “We will need to match their physicality and do a good job of making their best players work for their points. We will need to be able to make some outside shots to open up the paint.” Staying focused and having fun while making plays together is something that coach McVey says will be a key to success tonight.
The Oriole girls’ team will play first tonight as they start at 6:00 versus Madison. Following that game, the boys will square off. The boys game is expected to start around 7:45. Check out @LennoxOrioleSports or @LennoxMensBBall for in game updates for both boys and girls’ games tonight.
