Tryouts will be Monday, July 6 & Tuesday, July 7 8:30am to 10:30am. Gym will open at 8:15am in order to start at 8:30.

Group A--Madison, Ava, Emma, Alora, Claire, McKenna, Acacia, Melanie, Ella, Madi, Natalie
Group B--Sadie, Tiana, Carlee, Kinsley, Molly, Sloane, Caroline, Karlee, Kerigan, Maddie, Kennedy, Addison

Both groups will report and be located in different areas (main gym, weight room, etc.).

Door will not open until 8:15am. All participants will enter through door leading to weight room (under canopy).

Girls attending must bring:

Guidelines for Return to Athletics/Extracurricular Activities

July 1 – August 29, 2020

 

The Humphreys County School District believes that it is essential to the physical and mental well-being of students to return to physical activity and athletic competition.  With that goal in mind, it is still imperative that the District takes reasonable precautions to reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure among students, coaches, and instructors.

 

On June 30, 2020, the Governor’s office extended Tennessee’s COVID-19 State of Emergency until August 29, 2020.  The Governor’s prior order (No. 38) includes limitations and restrictions on contact sporting events and activities.  Due to the extension of these restrictions to certain specified sports, the following plan will be divided into two parts, each with differing restrictions on allowable activities.

 

While the Governor’s order is in place:

  • TSSAA member schools cannot have any football, girls’ soccer, or basketball competitions or scrimmages with other schools.  These restrictions DO NOT apply to volleyball, golf, or cross-country running. 
  • Close contact activities during fundamental practices in the sports of football, 7-on-7 football, girls’ soccer, basketball, and wrestling are NOT allowed.
  • Football and girls’ soccer cannot begin their seasons as originally scheduled.  TSSAA is in the process of developing regular and postseason options for these sports.  The TSSAA Board will ultimately make the decision as to how this will impact the postseason and if any adjustments can be made to regular season competition.

 

Some sports are considered “Higher Risk” because they involve close, sustained contact between participants, lack of significant protective barriers, and high probability that respiratory particles will be transmitted between participants.  In accordance with the Governor’s executive order, the following sports will be considered “higher risk” for purposes of this plan, and will be required to continue following the Humphreys County Phase 1 Guidelines for Return to Athletics/Extracurricular Activities:

  • Football
  • Girls’ Soccer
  • Basketball

 

Other sports are considered “Moderate Risk” and “Lower Risk” (as defined by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Sports Medicine Advisory Committee (SMAC).  Because they are not specifically mentioned in the Governor’s executive order regarding “close contact” activities, these sports may move to Phase 2 of the Humphreys County Guidelines for Return to Athletics/Extracurricular Activities.  These sports include:

  • Volleyball
  • Cross Country Running (with staggered start times)
  • Golf
  • Baseball and Softball
  • Tennis
  • Sideline Cheer (No builds or group stunts allowed at this time)

 

*Basketball and volleyball are considered to be Moderate Risk sports according to NFHS, however, basketball is specifically listed in the Governor’s order, and therefore must be included in Phase 1 guidelines at this time.

 

PHASE 2 GUIDELINES

 

Pre-Workout/Contest Screening:

  • All coaches, instructors and students will be screened for signs/symptoms of COVID-19 prior to any workout or competition.  Screening includes temperature checks.  If a student, coach or instructor has a temperature of 100˚ F or above, OR answers “yes” to any of the questions on the screening form, that individual must return home and not be allowed to participate in workouts/practice. 
  • Responses to screening questions for each person should be recorded and stored so that there is a record of everyone present in case a student, coach or instructor develops COVID-19.
  • Any person with positive symptoms reported, a positive COVID-19 diagnosis, or who has been in close contact with a person with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis will not be allowed to participate in workouts/competitions, and should maintain contact with his or her primary care provider or other appropriate health-care professional.  The school administrator should be notified immediately.  The school administrator will then notify the Director of Schools.
  • Before returning to workouts/practice, the student, coach or instructor must meet the criteria set forth by the CDC.
  • Vulnerable individuals should not oversee or participate in any workouts/competitions during Phase 2.

 

Limitations on Gatherings:

  • No gathering of more than 15 people at a time inside.  Up to 50 individuals may gather outdoors for workouts as long as appropriate social distancing can be accomplished.
  • For liability purposes, all activities must be scheduled on campus unless otherwise approved by school administrators, and follow TSSAA guidelines for off-season workouts.  Approved coaches or instructors must supervise groups.
  • Coaches and instructors must submit plans and schedules to building administrators for approval.  School administrators or designee will coordinate use of facilities to limit flow of student athletes and will ensure that all safety protocols are followed.
  • Workouts should be conducted in “pods” of students with the same 15 students always working out together.  Smaller pods can be utilized for weight training.  This ensures more limited exposure if someone develops an infection and assists with contact tracing.
  • To the greatest extent possible, there should be a minimum distance of 6 feet between each individual.  If this is not possible indoors, then the maximum number of individuals in the room must be decreased until proper social distancing can occur.  It is understood that during practice and competitions, students will be unable to maintain the recommended 6 feet of separation.  Appropriate social distancing will need to be maintained on sidelines and benches during practices and competitions.  Consider using tape as a guide for students and coaches.

Facilities Cleaning:

  • Adequate cleaning schedules should be created and implemented for all athletic facilities to mitigate any communicable diseases.  Coaches/Instructors are responsible for cleaning and disinfecting all facilities (including locker rooms and restrooms) and equipment used by students after each activity.  CDC guidelines for cleaning and disinfecting must be followed.
  • Prior to an individual or groups of individuals entering a facility, hard surfaces within that facility should be wiped down and sanitized (e.g., chairs, furniture in meeting rooms, locker rooms, weight room equipment, bathrooms, athletic training room tables, etc.).
  • Individuals should wash their hands for a minimum of 20 seconds with warm water and soap before touching any surfaces or participating in workouts.
  • Hand sanitizer should be plentiful and available to individuals as they transfer from place to place.
  • Weight equipment should be wiped down thoroughly before and after an individual’s use of the equipment.
  • Appropriate clothing/shoes should be worn at all times in the weight room to minimize sweat from transmitting onto equipment/surfaces.
  • Any equipment such as weight benches, athletic pads, etc. having holes with exposed foam should be covered.
  • Students must be encouraged to shower and wash their workout clothing immediately upon returning to home.

 

Physical Activity and Athletic Equipment:

  • Students, coaches and instructors must stay home if they do not feel well.
  • There should be no shared athletic towels, clothing or shoes between students.
  • Individual clothing and towels should be washed and cleaned after every workout, practice or competition.
  • Hand sanitizer should be plentiful.
  • Athletic equipment such as bats and catchers gear should be cleaned between each use.  Other equipment, such as helmets and pads, should be worn by only one individual and not shared.
  • Locker room facilities should only be opened for restroom use.  Restroom breaks should be planned to limit numbers in the restroom and to maintain social distancing.  If possible, students should dress at home in clean uniform/gear.  All personal items (shoes, cleats, gear) will be carried home daily.
  • Students are not to be penalized for not participating.  Workouts will be on a voluntary basis.  No student, coach or instructor will feel pressured to participate in any in-person activities.  No student or coach/instructor will experience any repercussions for not attending on-site, in-person activites.
  • The use of masks and gloves is optional.  Handwashing/sanitizing is expected.
  • Be sensitive and accommodating to parents that may be uncomfortable with returning to practice too quickly.
  • During this phase, only students and coaches/instructors will be allowed in athletic facilities—No spectators!

Hydration:

  • Drinking fountains should not be used, but water bottle filling stations may be used if the athlete brings his/her own bottle.  No sharing of water bottles or cups allowed.

 

It is important to understand that these guidelines are subject to change at any time based upon local conditions, decisions made by the Director of Schools, directives from the Tennessee Department of Health,  and/or further executive orders from the Governor of Tennessee.

Participants MUST bring personal water bottle with a tight lid.
